Xendra Nara
Xendra Nara graduated from Temple University where he majored in Political Science, picking up a minor in Philosophy along the way. During his time there he joined a number of community-oriented organizations, among which were PERMIAS Philadelphia where he sat as Director of Public Affairs in 2017, and Feed the Barrel, an Indonesian-led organization that collects used cooking oil to recycle. It was there where Xendra learned the importance of community organization for not only mobilizing bodies and voices, but also for socio-economic and environmental resilience. Although a slight departure from the topics he studied in university, Xendra is personally interested in topics surrounding Agrobiodiversity and Agroecology, seeing the first step in addressing the climate crisis through the lens of designing more sustainable agriculture systems.
As Yayasan WRI’s Knowledge and Communications manager, Xendra is working diligently to re-catalogue WRI’s wealth of research output and telling the story of the nearly 25 year old Indonesian women’s-rights juggernaut. As the newcomer to WRI’s team, he is most excited about absorbing wisdom from his seniors and starting a book-lending program out of WRI’s personal library collections. In his spare time you can find Xendra keeping people out of the kitchen as he cooks dinner or combing through Reddit threads for help as he struggles to keep the plants in his room alive.
