Sita Aripurnami has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of Indonesia and a master’s degree in Gender Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, specialising in ‘Gender Theories in the Modern World’ graduating with the thesis “Women Reproductive Rights between Control and Resistance: A Reflection on the Discourse of Population Policy in Indonesia” MSc. dissertation (September 1997)
Sita has over 35 years of experience as a Gender expert. She specializes in the area of policies, strategies and capacity building related to gender issues; applied to the areas of macro issues such as politics, economy, law & human rights, health as well as national environmental/resources policies, where she actively works as a trainer on gender mainstreaming and gender budgeting. She has led several women’s organisations based on research, capacity building & advocacy that she co-founded, providing services to international development agencies and Indonesian institutions. The most recent of which is Yayasan WRI having been a co-founder and has sat as the Executive Director for over 10 years. Over the years, Sita has worked with numerous international development and donor agencies in enabling stakeholders to implement the gender perspective in their budget and programs. As an expert in a field that has become very important in recent years, it is common for multilateral agencies to seek her expertise for programs they are looking to implement.
Sita Aripurnami is a woman of the world with a penchant for traveling. When she isn’t traveling physically, her spare time is spent traveling through classic English and Indonesian literature – a love she has carried since childhood.
