Edriana Noerdin

WRI Co-Founder and Program Director

Edriana Noerdin is a co-founder and Research Director of the Women Research Institute. She graduated from the Institute of Social Studies, the Hague with a Masters degree on Women and Development and received her doctorate in Political Science from the University of Indonesia through her dissertation of ‘State, Corporations and Communities in the Policies of Industrial Plantation Forests (Hutan Tanaman Industri) in Indonesia’, a case study of PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper in Riau from 2004-2024. 

With more than 20 years of experience as a gender expert, she has worked with a variety of international institutions as well as local and national governments. From the mid 2000-2010s, Edriana has worked as a gender monitoring and evaluation expert for the Ministry of Women Empowerment, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Home Affairs and became part of their expert team to attend UN General Assembly sessions in New York for gender related issues. Through her work and involvement with Yayasan WRI, Edriana has conducted research on reproductive rights, maternal mortality, child marriage, women leadership, women political participation, women in green prosperity as well as the intersections between gender and environmental sustainability.

Edriana specializes in the area of policies, strategies, and capacity building for central and local governments on gender mainstreaming, gender budgeting and gender responsive governance for climate change issues. She is also an expert trainer on gender and policy analyses, as well as an experienced multi-stakeholder facilitator. Edriana has also immersed herself in Indonesian politics, currently sitting as deputy chair of incumbent Gerindra’s PIRA (Perempuan Indonesia Raya) wing. When she’s not designing research strategies or advocating for women in politics, you can find Edriana hunting around Jakarta for the best Oxtail Soup or ‘Gajebo’, a local delicacy from her hometown of Padang.
