The Women Research Institute partnered with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy for their Political Inclusion Fellowship Programme in 2024-2025. The goal of the fellowship program is to empower and equip emerging leaders in Indonesia with the tools necessary to enact transformative change in their political environments.
Objectives of the Fellowship Programme:
- To encourage political actors to open more space for women and marginalised groups at strategic leadership levels by creating inclusive political structures.
- To empower transformative leadership by fostering leaders capable of driving meaningful change within formal political institutions.
- To cultivate ownership among members, instilling a sense of responsibility to effect change within their organisation and beyond.
- To create space and open opportunities for fellows to meet, understand, engage, and collaborate with wider communities, fostering inclusive dialogue and partnerships across diverse social, cultural, and political groups.
The group project of Melati Putih Suci is an advocacy training on sexual violence for high school students in Depok. This project is designed to emphasise the importance of inclusive governance, gender equality, and collaborative leadership, empowering participants to create a meaningful impact in the communities and beyond conducted for the high school students.
Purpose
The increase the knowledge on how to understand and socialise as well as advocating the sexual violence issue in Depok by the high school students. Which, then in the end the participants also include young university students. By having the good understanding of the issue, the participants may have the materials to advocate to the legislative in Depok
The Melati Putih Suci group consist of three members of political party members:
- Ms Sahat Farida (PDI P Perjuangan)
- Mr Rahmat Kamarudin (Gerindra)
- Ms Mifatul Jannah (PKB)
Key activities
- Discussion to design and plan of the training
- Selecting of the training participants
- Contacting the executive and legislative of Depok for the advocacy practice
- Contacting the resource persons for the training

- The implementation of the training
- A guideline of the training (the group decided to mentioned it as guideline not module)
- A plan for follow up by the participants coordinate by Ms Sahat Farida.
Activities Completed:
- The training implemented in the period duration of the project at Ruang Depok Open Space, Balai Kota Depok
- The practice on doing advocacy to the local parliament implemented
Stakeholders Engaged
- The training participants were 34 persons (21 high school students & 13 university students)
- There were 13 female participants out of 34 persons who participate (38.23% female participate)

Expected Outcomes
- Through the workshop & clinic in 19-21 February 2025, (1) the group Melati Putih Suci was formed; (2) help refined the project ideas and design the group project to conduct an Advocacy Training on Sexual Violence for High School Students in Depok
- Regular meetings online to prepare the Advocacy Training and discuss on the Module development, selecting participants and resource persons for the training. The result of these numerous online meetings is the advocacy training design and the module as well the report of the implementation of the training.
